How do I use library switch in SimaPro Synergy?

Updated this week

Library Switch in SimaPro Synergy makes it easy to update the links in a model from one data library version to a newer one. For example, you can update links from:

  • ecoinvent 3.10 Cut-off → ecoinvent 3.11 Cut-off

  • ecoinvent 3.9.1 Cut-off → ecoinvent 3.10 Cut-off

If you want to go from ecoinvent 3.9.1 to 3.11, you need to switch in two steps:

  1. ecoinvent 3.9.1 → ecoinvent 3.10

  2. ecoinvent 3.10 → ecoinvent 3.11

Step 1: Start the library switch

  1. Open the model you want to update (or create a new one).

  2. On the model dashboard, go to Selected library sources.

  3. Click Switch library for the library you want to change from.

  4. Choose the library you want to change to.

After selecting the library, a list of processes will appear. In the Match status column, each process will show one of these match types:

  • Direct match (no warning icon)

  • Close match (warning icon)

  • No match (warning icon)

Step 2: Resolve matches

Direct match

A Direct match means a directly related process was found in the new library and is selected automatically.

If you want to change the suggested match:

  1. Open the drop-down next to the process.

  2. Click Select other process.

  3. Filter/search for the process you want, then click Select.

Close match

A Close match means there are several possible matches, or a previously chosen match is being suggested (“remembered”).

  1. Open the drop-down next to the process.

  2. Select the most relevant (closest) process.

  3. If the process you want isn’t listed, click Select other process.

  4. Filter/search for the process you want, then click Select.

No match

A No match means you need to choose the new process yourself.

  1. Open the drop-down next to the process.

  2. Click Select other process.

  3. Filter/search for the process you want, then click Select.

Your selection will be remembered if you switch the same process again in the future.

Save and continue later

If you haven’t finished matching all processes, click Save and Continue Later. Your progress will be saved.

Step 3: Complete the switch

  1. Click Review Results.
You can only continue if a match has been selected for all selected processes (otherwise the button stays greyed out).

  2. Review the summary of matches and click Confirm.

If you decide to cancel the switch, select Discard changes.

Troubleshooting

Error message: The library switch failed

If the library is used by a locked model or a locked primary data library, the target library (the one you want to switch to) must already be selected there.

What to check

  1. Open the locked model or the locked primary data library.

  2. Confirm the target library is selected.

If the target library is not selected, switching is not possible. In that case, you have two options:

  • Unlock the model / primary data library (to allow changes), or

  • Unlock it, select the target library, and then lock it again once you’re done.

Important limitations

  • You can only switch between libraries within the same product library family (for example, ecoinvent → ecoinvent).

  • Switching between libraries with different calculation methods (for example, ecoinvent 3.11 Cut-off → ecoinvent 3.11 Consequential) is not supported at the moment.
