With the release of SimaPro 9.4 (June 2022), the updated ecoinvent EULA comes into effect for SimaPro users. End-users have to accept the updated EULA when installing/updating SimaPro desktop and when using the SimaPro online platform (as an Expert).
With this updated EULA, ecoinvent aims to clarify definitions and terms of use for all user groups and license types, where it replaces the following EULAs:
the former ecoinvent EULA (2014);
the ecoinvent Yearly EULA;
the EN15804 Addendum to the ecoinvent EULA
Generally, with regards to sharing of data, users should consider the following questions:
Which data are you sharing - is it the actual (licensed) data or calculated results?
How much data do you intend to share?
Who are you sharing it with? Does that third party also have an ecoinvent license?
How are you sharing the data - via a static report, via SimaPro online platform (for example with another business user) or via another medium?
For further clarification, a summary of rights and restrictions in the updated EULA are provided below:
Which data can be shared with which type of user?
| Licensed data | Calculated data |
Licensee | Unlimited use | Unlimited use |
Third parties | Limited to the EULA definition of 'Insubstantial Amounts' | Unlimited use in a static form on an occasional basis. |
Which data cannot be shared with which type of user?
| Licensed data | Calculated data |
Licensee | No restrictions | No restrictions |
Third parties | Data points exceeding the EULA definition of 'Insubstantial Amounts' | Dynamic use is only allowed between users of the SimaPro Online platform until 1 October 2023 (please refer to this license overview). For implications after this date, please refer to this article . |
