When analyzing a process in SimaPro Craft, you normally see the contribution of the inputs from nature and emissions of that process, as well as the contributions of inputs from and outputs to technosphere, as seen in the image below.
However, in some cases, you only see the aggregated impact and not the contributions, while in fact, there are different contributors. Thus, you don't see the breakdown of the impact, which looks like this:
This behavior has to do with the fact that the top process that you are analyzing is part of a loop: the product output is used as input for an upstream process. For example, electricity is needed to produce building materials for the power plant that produces that electricity, or steel is needed to build trucks that transport steel.
For mathematical reasons, SimaPro cannot show the breakdown of the results if the top process is also used as an input somewhere else in the model. In such a case, Analyze will not show contributions (the contributions as visible in a Network view are a proxy, which is calculated in a different way). The solution for this is to 'break' the loop, which can be done in different ways:
In the calculation setup, you can use the library switch function to replace unit processes with system processes.
Alternatively, you can make a copy of the process you want to analyze. The copy will open in edit mode, and even though the underlying model is the same, the copy is not part of the looped system anymore. From this window, you can use the analyze function and see the results, including the breakdown. You do not need to save the copy, unless you want to use it in a calculation setup. If that is the case, make sure you give the copy a clear and distinct name, and remember that any changes in the original process must also be made in the copy.
