Answer
With the changes in the license and activation servers introduced with SimaPro 9, it is important to keep
in mind that:
  • A SimaPro 8 license can be used to install and activate SimaPro 9.
  • A SimaPro 9 license cannot be used to install and activate SimaPro 8.
That means with your current SimaPro 8 registration code, you can use both SimaPro 8 or update to
SimaPro 9. However, when you renew your service contract, you will receive a SimaPro 9 registration
code which will only work with SimaPro 9.

So for perpetual licenses - when you renew your SimaPro service contract:

When you renew your service contract, you will receive a new SimaPro 9 registration code. This code is only valid with SimaPro 9 installations and cannot be entered in existing SimaPro 8 installations.

If you wish to continue to work with your current SimaPro 8 installation, you do not need to enter this new code at this time. If you wish to work with the latest version of SimaPro, you can use the new code to update to SimaPro 9.  Please make sure to go through the relevant update instructions carefully.

For temporary licenses - when you purchase a new temporary license:

When you purchase new temporary license, you will receive a new SimaPro 9 registration code. This code is only valid with SimaPro 9 installations and cannot be entered in existing SimaPro 8 installations.

You can install the latest version of SimaPro from the Install & Update page. Kindly note it is still possible to continue working with your SimaPro 8 database(s) using SimaPro 9. A technical conversion will take place when you first open the database with SimaPro 9 but the content of the database will remain intact.
